So it's graduate recruitment season. Elvis' applications for the scheme closed on Wednesday and we have received all sorts through the doors. For a while there was a skateboard behind reception. Apparently someone's application was written on the back of it. I'm not sure why.
There are some classic stories. Our industry as a creative enterprise tends to reward the more interesting or singular approaches to these things, though that said it is a bit easy to over-cook it.
There is one, possibly apocryphal, of the person who sent an application form in with a banknote stapled to it. The text of the covering letter read “Please find attached a bribe of £10 for my interview....” I like that idea. I imagine it would work.
Another one Craig Morgan told me about on Friday was of a couple of young creatives who arrived outside the D&AD awards once the ceremony was over carrying several cases of bottled beer. They had re-badged the bottles 'bribery beer' with their contact information on it. Given you are not allowed to smoke inside, all the Creative Directors were coming outside for a smoke, and being handed Bribery Beer by the two cunning young rapscallions. Legend now has it they found employment before too long.
Do you know of any others? Any howlers would be particularly well appreciated.
